About Us
A highly creative studio near Cambridge and Ely
Bluebarn Studios was founded in 2006 as spacious rural recording space with residential facilities ideal for national bands not just those from Cambridge and Ely. Started by Barbara Stretch and Chris Taylor, music is an important part of their lives and even their sons have gone on to become professional musicians playing in international touring acts for artists such as Groove Armada, Roots Manuva, Lily Allen,Tom Vek, Clor and Mika.
Chris engineers most of Bluebarn’s sessions and can also produce acts to help them achieve great results. With over 35 years experience working in the music industry Chris has performed and recorded with artists as varied as Spitualised, Simply Red, Roots Manuva, Ringo Starr and Goldie After touring for many years, including with his own improvised electronic band The Bays (who were lucky enough to play with Herbie Hancock at The Barbican), Chris decided to concentrate on production and has recently achieved a gold disc for 20,000 physical sales for the Spanish band Amaral.
“Despite having worked at quite a high level I am pleased to work with artists at any stage of experience or skill.I am happy to work as a producer and help with musical decisions or as an engineer just trying to get the result the artist wants. For me this is all about learning the craft and improving my skills and equipment. That’s the fun bit anyway”.
