Bluebarn co-owner Chris Taylor has spent over 8 years helping Spanish band Amaral achieve greatness on tour and in the studio. Here is his account of his journey with them.

“In 2008 I drove down to London to do a session on bass for a big Spanish band in State Of The Ark studios in Richmond. This is when I first met Amaral, a very well established Spanish band. We got on well together and I did all the rest of the bass tracks in Avatar and Henry Hirsch’s studio under the Edison Hotel in new York with them.A few years later in 2010 I did their next album Hacia Lo Salvaje in Madrid and toured with them all over Spain and South America.

In early 2014 they contacted me to work on their first single release in 4 years only this time it wasn’t just as bass player but as producer. In February of 2014 Eva, Juan and Toni organised to come over to our studio for about 5 days to record the bass, drums and guitar for the backing track of Ratonera. It was a tight schedule and within a couple of weeks we had completed the track in Madrid and released it with a pretty controversial animated video depicting Angela Merkel and shooting up heroin and Silvio Belesconi doing crack.

On the day it was released we were amazed when it had received 60,000 youtube hits in only a couple of hours. Then it went viral with news items all over the world talking about this track. Anyway it eventually had 2 million hits in about 2 weeks and I went on to produce the rest of the album with them which went gold at the end of last year. ”
